Impound insurance for drivers aged 17 to 25 is the same 30-day policy the compound requires, placed with the few insurers who quote young drivers. Most insurers won't. We will, on a full or provisional licence, with the certificate emailed the same day.
Age alone puts you in the highest-risk band. Add a seizure and the comparison sites and big insurers decline before you've finished the form. We place young drivers every day, so we know which schemes will take you and what they'll want to see.
Schemes built for 17 to 25. Not a standard policy with an age loading on top; cover arranged with insurers who write young-driver impound risks.
Full or provisional licence. On a provisional you'll need a supervising driver aged 21 or over who has held a full licence for three years.
You drive it out yourself. The policy is in your name and you're the one covered to drive. Only if there's a real reason you can't, such as a medical reason or a problem with your licence, can a named driver be added instead, and you're then excluded from driving.

If you're on this list, start the quote. If you're not sure, call and we'll tell you straight.
We can't cover a car you don't own, business use, or a second seizure on the same policy.
Every case is priced individually, so there are no figures here. The quote takes about three minutes and shows the full price before you pay. These are the things that move it most.

17 to 20 sits in the highest band. 21 to 25 is noticeably better, and each year helps.
A full licence held over a year is the best case. Provisional cover is available but priced higher and needs a supervisor.
Engine size, value and insurance group. A small, standard car places far more easily than a modified or high-group one.
No insurance is the usual reason and the easiest to place. Other reasons are still possible; tell us and we'll check.
They don't rule you out, but they must be declared. An undeclared one can void the policy after you've collected the car.
Postcode risk applies to impound cover as it does to any policy.
Online in about three minutes, or over the phone with an advisor who places young drivers every day.
Your date of birth, licence, registration and why the car was seized. Be straight about points or cancellations; it's what makes the certificate stick.
Pay by card. Answer everything accurately: the policy is verified with the police and the Motor Insurers' Bureau before the car is released.
Certificate by email and in your portal. Take it, photo ID, the seizure notice and proof you own the car to the compound.
A common one for 17 to 25s: the car is yours, but a parent or friend is better placed to collect it. Take the policy in your name as keeper and name them as the driver. Once they're added, only they can drive under the policy, so decide before you buy.

Yes. Our schemes start at 17 on both full and provisional licences. The price is at the top of the range at 17, and a provisional needs a supervising driver, but we can place you.
Most insurers don't write impound cover at all, and the few that do often exclude under 25s. Comparison sites only show what their panel will quote, so a young driver with a seizure sees nothing. We go to insurers who take this risk.
A supervising driver aged 21 or over who has held a full licence for at least three years, and they must be in the car when you collect it. They don't go on the policy, so we don't need their details for the quote. There's more on our provisional licence page.
Only if there's a real reason you can't drive it yourself, such as a medical reason, a problem with your licence or being abroad. Being young or the compound being far away isn't one. If it applies, start the quote in your name, then call us with your reference number before you pay and we'll add them as a named driver. Once they're on it, you can't drive the car under that policy.
Usually not, as long as you declare it. What is a problem is leaving it off: insurers check, and an undeclared cancellation or conviction can void the policy after you've collected the car. If you're unsure what counts, call us before you buy.
Yes. The compound needs 30 days of cover whatever your age, and the policy covers you to drive for the full 30 days after release. Arrange an annual policy before it runs out.
Tell us the same day. A provisional policy has conditions a full licence doesn't, and driving unaccompanied on it after passing can leave you uninsured. We'll explain the options for the rest of the term.
